MICHAEL R. GUSTAVESON
PRESIDENT OF GUSTAVESON HOMES
As the current president and owner of Gustaveson Homes, Inc., I would like to give you a little background on myself and my company. I am very proud of my personal accomplishments as well as those of the Gustaveson Homes team.
EDUCATION
During my twelve year education in the Lutheran school system, I discovered that I enjoyed the Industrial Arts. In high school I concentrated on Architectural Drafting, Engineering and Woodworking. During my senior year at Lakeside Lutheran High School, Lake Mills, WI, I decided to pursue a college education in the building construction field.
From 1982 to 1986, I attended the University of Wisconsin, Platteville, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in building construction management. I also obtained a minor in Business Administration. The four year program concentrated heavily on building materials, architecture and construction laboratories. In my business courses I learned to be an effective manager. This four year education gave me a good foundation on which to build my company.
PAST EMPLOYMENT
Upon graduation from the University of Wisconsin, I obtained a position as assistant supervisor and estimator for a major commercial contractor in my hometown, Janesville, WI. From May 1986 to May 1991, I worked on many different commercial projects, including the Manchester Plaza, a ten story high-rise hospital addition in Springfield, IL, and the renovation of the West wing at the State Capital in Madison, WI. Along with these major projects, I did a variety of estimating tasks in the office, including construction management of a small addition to Oscar Mayer in Madison, WI, and a new health facility for Janesville Medical Center. All of this experience, both in estimating costs and managing construction subcontractors, brought me to another opportunity to continue in residential construction.
In May of 1991, I was offered a position as territory sales manager for Neumann Homes in Janesville, WI. This position gave me the opportunity to get out of the office and work with customers - selling homes. Although this was a major change from what I was previously doing, it was very refreshing to work directly in the selling process of residential construction. For three years I was employed by Neumann Homes as their top sales manager. My main territory was in the East Troy, WI area, including but not limited to Delavan, Elkhorn and Walworth area. During my employment with Neumann Homes, the company was in the process of regrouping, which brought me to the current opportunity of owning my own construction company.
GUSTAVESON HOMES, INC.
In May of 1994, Gustaveson Homes was formed as a corporation and started in Kenosha, WI. In our first six months of business we closed and completed seven homes to actually show a profit on our books! In 1995, Gustaveson Homes, Inc., closed and completed a total of seventeen homes. Working in Kenosha, Pleasant Prairie and Racine, we captured a market for our custom quality homes. During 1994 and 1995, we hired and employed a secretary/office manager, and a construction superintendent. Since that point, we have also grown to include positions for customer service representative, construction superintendents, construction manager and secretarial staff. Equally important, we have full-time sales managers responsible for all of the open houses and customer relations during the building process. Our team has allowed us to expand in size.
We are now closing on approximately 60 new homes per year. All of this growth would not be possible without the team effort which has been displayed over the past years. We strive to maintain long term subcontractor relationships, which has significantly helped with our quality control. Also, the team members that we have put in place in our office have put forth their effort to make sure that we have total customer satisfaction. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION IS OUR NUMBER ONE GOAL!!! We would encourage you to check our references, as we know that we have many very happy and satisfied customers!
In closing, it is my full intention as a company to go forth with a team effort in both quality and customer satisfaction. As President of the Racine/Kenosha Builders Association in 1996 and 2005, and also as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, I am dedicated to the building industry. It is my intention as a business owner to carry forth my duties in a professional and ethical manner. I look forward to continued years of success in the custom home business.
